![]() You will want to start at the top, at the top of the last riser. Step Two: After the pads are stapled down, it’s time to start the rug. One staple at each corner and one in the middle along the top and bottom are perfect. Staple the rug pad in place, or else it will slip around under the rug. Step One: After your stairs are all prepped, and if you are using a pad, you will want to cut the pad so that it’s just a tiny bit shorter than the width of the rug, and about 2 inches narrower than the depth of the step. You can simply clean them if you like them the way they are, you can paint the risers white, or you can paint everything white! Whatever you do, your stairs will look fantastic! Scissors (strong enough to cut the rug).Borrow one from a friend or rent one from a local rental shop if you don’t have one. Or you can use a traditional ‘waffle’ style pad. A felt rug pad is perfect as it has a non skid bottom. A carpet pad that you will cut into rectangles to be placed on top of each step.Add those two lengths together and multiply by the number of steps, then add 10%.
